A printed magazine for OYUK

· agca·studio

Competition panels are made to be read at a large scale: pinned to a wall and seen from a distance. We wanted the account of OYUK to exist at the scale of the hand as well, so the project was compiled as a printed magazine of 25 pages, 170 by 240 millimetres.

The magazine opens under the subtitle “A Monograph of the Void” and follows the order of the panels. First the concept: the building is a solid block of stone, and public space is carved out of it. The five states of the hollow are set out one by one: the gathering, the producing, the sheltering, the generous and the remembering hollow.

The chapter on the city comes next. It describes how the public life of Muğla has collected in carved voids, in the bazaar, the han courtyard and the mosque courtyard, and how the scheme completes the missing link in that route.

In the chapter on the floors, the plans are given with their use scenarios: the festival courtyard, the flexible hall and foyer, the workshops, the library and the administration. The final chapter covers the facades and the timber shutters that open and close with the sun.

For the project data and all the images, see Oyuk, and for the competition entry, see OYUK competition entry submitted.
