Existing housing estate: drone survey, point cloud, Revit as-built model, schematic drawings
Documentation of an existing housing estate in Üsküdar by the Scan to BIM method. The whole estate was scanned by drone; the point cloud produced by photogrammetry gave a measurable copy of the blocks, the roads and the ground. The interiors of the selected block were scanned as well and added to the cloud. The block was rebuilt in Revit: slabs, walls, windows, balconies and roof were modelled with their dimensions taken from the cloud. Four apartments per floor, two basements, the ground floor, four upper floors and the duplex attic all took their place in the model. A simplified block model was produced for the whole estate, and a schematic plan, section, elevation and attic plan for the selected block. The result is a living information model on which renovation and regeneration decisions can be taken.
  • The same apartment block in three slices: a drone photograph on the left, a grey point cloud with the roof removed in the middle, a Revit model with blue windows on the right
  • Drone orthophoto: the housing estate with its tiled-roof blocks, pool, sports courts, roads and car parks
  • Three-dimensional point cloud of the whole estate: blocks, roads and trees from above
  • The selected block marked with a red circle on the estate point cloud, its enlargement and elevation, with the long section strip of the estate below
  • Study derived from the point cloud: axonometric of the block, a section, a single-floor slice and a floor plan
  • Revit model of the estate: blocks with grey hipped roofs, red eaves and blue windows, a pool plaza in the middle, terrain and car parks
  • Axonometric, coloured section with level labels, a single-floor slice and floor plan produced from the Revit model
  • Schematic plan of the first upper floor: four apartments around a core of landing, lift and fire stair; each with living room, kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and balconies
  • Schematic section: stairs, lift, floor slabs and room labels through two basements, the ground floor, four upper floors and the duplex attic
  • Schematic elevation: rows of windows, balconies, hipped roof and level labels; the entrance door at the basement level exposed by the slope
  • Attic floor plan: attic rooms, terraces and bathrooms of the four duplex apartments, with landing, lift machine room and fire stair in the middle, surrounded by the hipped roof surfaces
